How my dad always gets discounts everywhere:

2 minutes that might change your life

This is a short story about the power of confidence.

Today, we went to a SPA hotel for the holidays, and my dad immediately went to book a massage.

He saw a nice lotion and asked how much it cost.

The lady said: “20 euros.”

He replied: “WHAAAT? Too expensive.”

She said: “That’s the price.”

My dad: “I know they produce this for 5 euros. What discount can you give me?”

The lady: “I can’t give you a discount.”

My dad: “Come on, it’s Christmas now. Of course, you can give me a discount.”

The lady: “I actually have a 10% discount on all items. Okay, I’ll give you a discount.”

My dad happily purchased it. Here’s the deal: my dad doesn’t actually care about the 10%. He just loves negotiating.

During our summer vacation, he gets anywhere between 5% and 20% off items that aren’t even discounted—just because he asks and jokes about it.

You can get that discount too. You just need to ask. You need confidence, detachment, and a few tricks.

Go back to the beginning of the conversation. When my dad heard the price, he made an emotional response, claiming it was too expensive.

He doesn’t actually believe it, but he makes the person on the other side feel like it’s overpriced. That’s how he lowers the price of the item.
